POKÉMON TRAINER
As the name implies, Pokémon Trainers are people who catch, train, and battle with pokémon. Many would consider it a right of passage that all of the regions hold in common. Because of this, it isn't quite strange for someone travelling at the ripe age of ten with nothing but the pokémon that they were raised and grew up with. A very few are given Pokemon by a professor, the most famous of these are known as the pokédex holders. It isn't uncommon for them to travel to one or more regions in order to perfect their technique, collect gym badges and more commonly, aim to become a pokémon master.
POKÉMON COORDINATOR
Unlike Pokemon Trainers, Pokemon Coordinators focus on making their moves breathtaking. What they strive for is to make their Pokemon put on a dazzling show that is sure to take hold of the audience and pull them in for a swirl of moves that they might not have even imagined used that way before. From their offensive attacks to their defensive attacks, each move they make is meant to show off their Pokemon.
Following this example, Coordinator Battles are meant to do the very same. Whether their Pokemon fainted or not, is a factor into their overall score, however, it is rarely the deciding vote. Defending a deathly blow in an uncoordinator like fashion may result in losing more points than actually taking it.
POKÉMON RANGER
Pokémon Rangers in this world were first trainers. The pokémon they have are those that they captured, raised, trained on their own to assist them in all that they need. In general, they have genuine respect for pokémon, some going as far as to befriend them instead of actually capturing them. (This would cause some problems considering how difficult it can be to transport six pokémon at once ... And having a mob of them follows after someone.)
Keeping this in mind, many would instantly assume that their job deals with the outdoors and the wild. This is not true at all. In this world, Pokémon Rangers act as police. While making sure that things such as protecting wild pokémon, keeping the environment safe, and making sure lost travelers make it safely are part of their job, it is not the only thing. They arrest thieves and robbers and handle things everyday things within the city. Some may also assist Gym Leaders with their duties. However, they are not bound to a particular Gym Leader or even a region like Gym Trainers Association.
GYM LEADER
A gym leader is a person who may as well be considered the guardian of a city or town. When there is real trouble, for example Team Rocket trouble, they are the first to stand out and defend their town from such danger.
They test Pokémon Trainers and their pokémon through gym battles in order to help them not only participate but prepare for the Pokémon League. Other than this, they are in charge of their own gym, making it reflect not only their pokémon type, but giving them an environment where their pokémon would thrive. While they also teach young people how to battle, they do pick up a few of them to become gym trainers, who assist them in battling those who plan on challenging a gym.
There are a few cases where they are also the city's mayor. One good example of this is Elesa of Nimbasa City.
ELITE FOUR
While they were organized differently in the past, they are now organized by the famous Pokémon Association. The elite four are select members of the Association, the most famous of the five members in each region is the current reigning champion. Each of them are highly skilled pokémon trainers, and it wouldn't be surprising if they have specialized in a particular element type. In fact, there are only two known members that do not have a particular element type.
They are often called upon in times where there is extreme, world threatening danger or if there is trouble among the gym leaders. Other than this, they act as ambassadors for the Pokémon Association. To put it simply, other than keeping the balance and acting similar to the Rangers, they have no other job than to be a pretty face. Because of this, many of them have their own hobbies and other jobs on the side. There are times where they are ordered -- or well, more politely "asked," to do things by famous pokémon professors or gym leaders and even Pokémon Association.
These ideals that they're supposed to uphold are: appear to be the "untouchable" trainer, to walk with grace and/or charisma, become the person who is easily idolized by the people, obtain and train powerful Pokemon. Of course, the elite four members follow this in their own ways. The roguish charm of those from Kanto is a good example of this.
CITIZEN
This is the "catch all" group for all of those not wanting to join in gym battles, or contests. Generally, they don't even take Pokemon battles seriously. Those in this group are often Pokemon researchers and Pokemon breeders. Of course, people in this group do not have to be Pokemon researchers or breeders. They may have other jobs, like owning a restaurant or having a cabbage cart.
POKÉMON RESEARCHERS
As its title implies, Pokémon Researchers are scientists focusing on one area of the Pokemon world and may consider themselves to be an expert on that subject. The most famous of these are Professors Oak, Elm, Birch, Rowan, and now, Juniper and Juniper Sr. While they are famous in a particular region, they may travel around to different regions in order to gain new information on pokémon.
POKÉMON BREEDERS
They're people who carefully raise and decide which pairs of Pokemon would mate with to reproduce specific improvements in their kin, such as moves, talents, or natures. The most known of these reside near and/or at Pokémon Day Cares. They raise a large number of varied Pokémon, generally maintaining a balanced team, although they are often weak compared to other trainers. Typically, they don't care for Pokemon battles, preferring to take a more passive route..
