A soft yawn forced the young girl’s mouth wide open as she stumbled off the ferry. She somehow managed to fall asleep leaning on a banister, which had the unfortunate side effect of making her extremely groggy and a little bit painful, too. How exactly this happened, she didn’t bother to ask. Not like it really mattered anyway, truthfully; already happened, so all she could do was muddle through and hope to fully wake up soon. Rubbing her eyes, the warbled muttering Sila was hearing quickly formed into words as she woke up, spoken over an intercom from the boat.
“Newcomers to the Kuro region, we inform you that the Little Spirit Pokémon Lab of the Kuro region is on a small island a little off the coast of the actual region. You’ll grab your Pokémon from the lab, and soon after we’ll head out to the region. Have fun, and make sure to pick the right partner!”
A smile slowly formed on Sila’s mouth. ‘My first Pokémon,’ she thought happily, ‘I wonder what it’ll be . . . heh . . . with any luck . . .’ Her thought train trailed off at that point as she looked over to the view of the Lab. It was actually very pretty, at least to her. Then again, she WAS a beginning trainer, so she might not have been too unbiased. She began to hum happily as she skipped away from the dock.
She stopped at the door, briefly looking down at the rose bushes and sniffing a flower. She took a moment to memorize and appreciate the smell. It was, after all, this was the scent that would forever be associated with her fondest memory, so she had to take a minute.
Satisfied, she did a twirl and walked through the doors into the lab with a big smile.

Professor Iouna had just finished giving away a Swablu to a new pokemon ranger. Now she was cleaning up the papers they she had dropped earlier, its like she never gets a break from cleaning or working. All she wanted was a simple break for coffee, but shed never have to chance to get that. Even her boyfriend left her because she was to busy for him. Finally getting everything stacked up, she decided she go out and search for more pokemon to give away as starters. Opening the door, she bumped into a young girl. "Oh I'm sorry miss, I wasn't looking at where I was going." Iouna helped the girl up, and brought her inside. "So what can I do for you?"

BAM!
Not even a second into the door, Sila was knocked down by someone, causing a very sharp pain to shoot up her rear without her even knowing how it happened!
“Owww . . . .” she moaned, grumbling and rubbing the painful cheek. “Who the . . .?” Looking up, the young trainer saw a woman in a lab coat, who almost immediately helped her up, apologizing for bumping into her and taking her inside.
The sight that greeted her was impressive. Chrome floors, bright silver machines, all polished to a nearly blinding shine! Surely a sight for beginners, at least. Sila sidestepped slightly as an anonymous worker rushed past the both of them, somehow making her remember the Professor’s question. “Help me?” she asked softly, just a tad nervously, “Hmm, well . . .” She cleared her throat and looked at the woman, trying to look determined but still smiling from a growing giddiness. She almost yelled out excitedly, just a little too much of an outside voice:
“I’d like my first Pokémon, please!”

Iouna watched as the girl was taken in by the lab, though Iouna thought it was extremely dirty and un-organized. Kicking a paper on the floor back under the desk, she pulled out the tray of pokeballs that held the available starter pokemon. It was obvious that the girl was here for a starter pokemon... mostly because she blurted it out. Iouna laughed slightly and handed over the tray to her."Here are the starter pokemon, choose wisely. Also you can interact with them if you really need to. While you do that, I will get you the form you must fill out." Iouna smiled and walked back to her office to grab the form that the trainer must fill out for her to take the pokemon.

Sila smiled and watched the woman leave until she left sight, then looked down towards the Poké Balls. Immediately she reached behind her, fiddling around in her backpack until she found her father’s Pokédex, pulling it out. As she held it, she began letting out the Pokémon one by one, first choosing the one on the far right. She let it out in a flash of white light.
Out came a little pink balloon with red eyes. It stared up at Sila, activating its cuteness softly uttering, “Igglybuff?” Sila couldn’t help but smile and pick it up, nuzzling it softly. This action actually caused the Igglybuff to giggle, of all things, which made Sila do the same. Still, though, she put it down and opened the next Poké Ball, releasing a blue-ish black tadpole creature. All it did was softly utter “Tympole,” before turning away. She then released a Smoochum, Torchic, and Meowth, each of them offering their name in questioning and staring at her. She smiled to each one, but kept releasing the next Poké Ball to see what choices she had.
‘Only one left,’ she thought, ‘let’s see who the last contender is . . . .’ Picking up the final red-white orb, she opened and revealed a yellow creature with plug prongs on its head. It yawned and spun its arms softly in such a way that gave Sila the impression that it just woke up from a nap. As it spun its arms, Sila was fascinated as electricity sparked on its head, which almost immediately died out once it stopped. It stared up at her, tilting softly in curiosity saying, “Bi?” Sila pressed a button on her Pokédex, which immediately scanned the Pokémon and began to speak in a feminine, robotic voice.
“Elekid, the Electric Pokémon. Elekid spins its arms to generate electricity, but cannot hold the charges it makes. Unwary people often get shocked if they touch Elekid’s horns.”
While the voiceover played, more miscellaneous information scrolled on the screen. Elekid was an Electric-type (obviously, and apparently evolved into Electabuzz and eventually Electivire. The Pokédex even gave this particular Elekid’s gender and moveset! Such a useful tool . . . Sila was glad her father was kind enough to give her his own.
Putting the encyclopedia away, the girl leaned down to squat and looked at the Pokémon. “Hey, Elekid. How’d you like to come with me on my journey.” The Elekid smiled, nodding and going, “Bi bi!” spinning its arms again, and again causing electricity to spark around its horns. She grinned in response and picked the Pokémon up, twirling happily and hugging it.

A pile of papers lay on the Professors desk, just waiting to be picked up. Iouna grabbed the registration form, including a new pokemon to replace the taken one. She sighed and wondered if all of these pokemon were going to a good home, hopefully they were. Iouna walked back to the front of the lab to find the girl holding the Elekid. She smiled softly, and handed the girl the form and pen. " I see you've made your choice. Thats great! While you fill that out, here is your starter pack, and once your down just lay the form on my desk, and you can be on your way!" Iouna grabbed a small paper bag and sat it beside the trainer, before going to her room for a short nap. ‘Papers, huh? Well, Dad warned me about this . . .’ Sila giggled softly and rolled her eyes at herself. ‘Might as well get it over with~’
While the Elekid stared blankly at her, Sila went to work on the mind-numbing paperwork, leaning over the same table that the Poké Balls (now empty) were presented to her. Occasionally she wiggled her rump out of boredom, but she pretty much just focused on the paperwork.
After about fifteen or so minutes, she was finally done. She then rummaged around the little bag she was given, looking at the items in it. Cell Phone, some Potions . . . pretty much just a starter’s kit. Sweet. She grabbed the Elekid’s Poké Ball and held it out to him. “Alright, Elekid, let’s get going, huh?”
“Bi bi!” it replied as it was transformed into red energy and sucked into the orb. She quickly stuffed the kit into her backpack, then walked out of the lab heading back to the ferry. Someone would put the starters back where they belonged, she was sure.
Just outside the door, she took another breath of the rose bushes, going over what just happened. She just got her first Pokémon, after all. Awhile down the road, this would be one of her fondest memories, as she had been told by her parents and nearly every trainer or coordinator she’d ever run across. Although she just formed the memory, she knew it was true. She could just tell.
‘Hmm . . . where was I supposed to go again . . . ?’ Sila had already forgotten what the person over the intercom had said. Not really a good start. Softly sighing, she could her hand over her eyes and looked in the distance. Just barely in her vision, she could see a little town in a forest, and a path leading to it.
Seemed like a good place to start.
